Maggio Multicultural Academy

Maggio Multicultural Academy is an elementary school of educational excellence servicing students in preschool to 4th grade in Bávaro, Dominican Republic. It is a bi-lingual school that opened in September 2016.

The school began with a registration of 7 children, and now continues to grow with an enrollment of over 80 students. The school provides instruction in English and Spanish beginning in 1st grade. Preschool children (Pre-K2 – Pre-K4) receive instruction completely in English, and Kindergarten (K5) children receive instruction primarily in English.

Kindergarten has Spanish class 3 times a week to learn literacy and language basics so they are prepared when entering 1st grade.

Children in 1st through 4th grade receive instruction in English for their core subjects and Spanish Language Arts and Sociales. Every year we add a new grade level to the school, and we also offer an accredited independent study/online program from the United States offering children the ability to graduate with a U.S. High School Diploma.

All teachers are Native English or Native Spanish speakers or have an advanced level (near native) English/Spanish proficiency, depending on the course. All assistants are required to know English at an advanced level.

The idea is for children to learn to speak and understand the English language at an age where it is the easiest to acquire. Students have music, art and physical education in their classes weekly.

In September 2020, Maggio Multicultural Academy will open a new educational facility to provide more students a quality education with better programs and more opportunities for the entire community.

The curriculum of the school is based on American Learning Standards (Common Core) while incorporating Dominican Curriculum Standards as well. The curriculum also includes multiculturalism and global thinking.
